After you've had your teeth professionally whitened you’ll want to keep your smile looking bright! Here are a few tips from our Surrey dentists on how to keep your teeth white after whitening.
Oral Hygiene
When it comes to keeping your teeth white, brushing and flossing regularly and sufficiently are the most important things you can do. A thorough oral hygiene routine will help you remove surface stains and keep them from setting in. Brushing your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes, and flossing your teeth everyday, is ideal.
Focus on gently brushing all four quadrants of your mouth for 30 seconds each. Don't stop brushing until you've completed two full minutes. An electric toothbrush with a round, rotating head can be helpful with this process. A number of electric toothbrushes come with built in timers to let you know when the two minutes is done.
Avoid Dark-Coloured Foods and Drinks
Coffee, tea, dark berries, and even spices like curry should be consumed in moderation in order to avoid staining. Over time, dark pigmented foods or drinks can cause tooth discolouration.
Quit Smoking
Smoking can discolour teeth like nothing else, turning them yellow or even brown over time. So, if you needed yet another reason to quit smoking, consider your smile.

Occasional Touch Ups
Of course, the effects of your whitening treatment will wear off over time. When this happens you may want to consider a touch up. Just contact your Surrey dentist to order more of the whitening solution, then you can reuse the trays you already have.
